Athletes and Fighters: Recovery That Keeps You in the Game
You know the grind: hard rounds, heavy impact, bruising, repeated takedowns, muscles pushed through demanding sessions. Add a fight camp, travel, the pressure to make weight and limited rest, and recovery starts to feel like another opponent.
Here’s the truth most fighters learn late: recovery isn’t the bit after training — it’s where the gains happen. Your body rebuilds between sessions, and if you never give it the chance, every camp gets harder and every niggle digs in deeper.
We like a challenge. At Hope House Recovery in Dunstable, we build personalised recovery around your training, your goals and how you’re feeling — not a one-size-fits-all protocol. Here’s what that looks like.
How we help
Every plan starts with a conversation about your training, your fight schedule and what’s holding you back — then we build your recovery around you:
- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) — pressurised oxygen sessions for your recovery routine, available in 5, 10 or 20-session blocks. Suitability is assessed before sessions.
- Sports & Deep Tissue Massage — targeted hands-on work to ease muscle tension and keep you moving comfortably between camps. Looking for deep tissue massage Dunstable? Start here.
- Infrared Sauna — heat-based sessions to unwind, recharge and support your weight-cut routine. Sauna sessions are a tool fighters have used for generations to make weight safely under supervision — never use heat to force extreme weight loss, and never cut weight while dehydrated or unwell.
- Red Light Therapy — a light-based add-on to support tissue recovery.
- Nutrition & Supplement Coaching — practical fuelling and supplement guidance for camp and for life. Check medication or supplement questions with your GP, prescriber or pharmacist.
No two fighters recover the same way. We track your progress, adjust the plan and stay in your corner between sessions — that’s the whole-house approach.

What research says
A 2025 randomised trial studied 36 MMA-trained participants after a fatigue protocol. It reported improvements in some short-term recovery measures across groups that included massage and other recovery approaches. The study was small, followed participants for only 48 hours and combined massage with other methods in one group. It does not prove that massage alone improves fight performance, treats impact injuries or speeds recovery from weight cuts. Read the study.

Keep it practical
If muscle or joint discomfort flares, adopt good posture, avoid slouching and stretch little and often, without forcing painful movement. Follow your coach’s plan, prioritise recovery basics and seek appropriate clinical advice for an injury, significant bruising, worsening pain or symptoms that concern you.
FAQ
Is HBOT proven to speed up recovery after sparring?
The science is still settling — we won’t oversell it. We’ll explain what it may offer, screen your suitability and let you decide with full information.
Can massage treat a fight injury?
Massage may ease muscle tension, but it does not diagnose or treat injuries. For a suspected injury, get medical or physiotherapy advice — and we’ll work alongside it.
Can I use the infrared sauna for my weight cut?
Yes — sauna sessions can be part of a supervised weight-cut routine. We’ll help you use heat sensibly alongside proper hydration and fuelling. Never use heat to force extreme weight loss, and if you’re under medical care for your weight cut, follow your medical team’s lead first.
How do I know which service to start with?
