New Mums: Recovery After Birth, at Your Pace

Everyone asks about the baby. Not always about you.

Your body has been through months of change, birth and the demands of caring for a newborn. Broken sleep, carrying and feeding in awkward positions, and pressure to “bounce back” can make recovery feel like another job.

You don’t need to rush. Recovery after birth deserves patient, structured support, and every mum’s timeline is different. Slow is steady — and steady wins.

How we help

Our support is gentle, personalised and complementary to your GP, health visitor, midwifery team and any specialist care. Check with them before starting anything physical, especially after a caesarean or if you’ve had complications.

  • Sports & Deep Tissue Massage: Adapted, gentle hands-on support that may help ease muscle tension.
  • Posture & Movement Rehab: Practical guidance for carrying posture, feeding positions and everyday movement. If pain flares, adopt good posture, avoid slouching, and stretch little and often, only within the guidance you’ve received from your care team.
  • Recovery Assessments and Tracking: A starting-point review and simple progress tracking, without pressure to meet someone else’s timeline.
  • WhatsApp Recovery Support: Gentle check-ins between appointments, helpful when getting out of the house is difficult.
  • Red Light Therapy: A wellbeing option we can discuss for suitability and comfort.
  • Infrared Sauna: Consider only once cleared by your care team. If you’re breastfeeding, ask them for advice first.
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT): Discuss suitability with your GP or midwifery team before considering a session.
  • Nutrition & Supplement Coaching: Feeding-friendly guidance. Check supplements with your GP, prescriber or pharmacist, especially while breastfeeding.

Diastasis recti, pelvic-floor symptoms and postnatal conditions need assessment and care from appropriate medical or physiotherapy professionals. We don’t diagnose or promise to fix them. We can offer wellbeing support around your wider recovery plan.

The research

A randomised controlled trial studied a 12-week, home-based exercise programme for 88 postpartum women experiencing depressive symptoms. The researchers reported a greater reduction in physical fatigue in the exercise group than in the control group.

That’s encouraging, but it does not prove that every mum will have the same result, or that massage, sauna, red light or HBOT produces that effect. The study tested a particular exercise programme in a specific group. Read the PubMed study.

FAQ

When can I start?

When your GP or health visitor is happy for you to begin, often after the six-to-eight-week check, but timing depends on your birth and recovery. Always follow your care team’s advice and go at your pace.

Can I have support after a caesarean or birth complications?

Possibly, but check with your GP, health visitor or midwifery team first. Their guidance comes first, and our support is complementary to medical care, not a replacement.

Can you help with pelvic-floor problems or diastasis recti?

We don’t diagnose, treat or promise to fix these concerns. Please speak with your care team about appropriate medical or physiotherapy support. We can discuss gentle wellbeing support alongside their recommendations.

What if I can’t travel easily with a newborn?

We understand that plans can change. WhatsApp Recovery Support offers gentle check-ins between appointments as part of selected programmes. Tell us what feels manageable.
