Under Consultant Care? Recovery Support That Works Alongside Your Treatment
Surgery or a consultant-led treatment plan can feel like a mountain. For you and your family, the weeks around it may seem full of waiting: waiting for the operation, waiting to regain strength, waiting to feel more like yourself.
Rest can be necessary, but it may also bring stiffness, reduced activity and worries about energy or the recovery timeline. Those concerns deserve care and clear answers, not pressure to do more than your team recommends.
Hope House Recovery offers structured wellness recovery support that may help you feel more comfortable and prepared around your medical pathway. Your consultant, surgical team, GP and other medical professionals always come first. We work alongside their advice, never instead of it.
How we help
First, get approval. Before starting any session, especially before surgery or soon afterwards, ask your consultant or GP whether it is suitable. Follow their instructions throughout. We adapt or pause support to fit the stage of recovery they approve.
Depending on your clearance and goals, support may include:
- Sports & Deep Tissue Massage: gentle pressure adapted to your comfort and approved recovery stage.
- Posture & Movement Rehab: practical posture correction and movement guidance, only within your medical team’s recommendations. This does not replace prescribed physiotherapy or rehabilitation.
- Red Light Therapy: an optional wellness session, considered only if appropriate and cleared.
- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT): some people explore HBOT as a wellness session during recovery. Suitability is assessed and medical clearance is required. We do not claim it speeds surgical healing.
- Infrared Sauna: heat may not suit everyone before or after surgery, so use it only with your medical team’s approval.
- Nutrition & Supplement Coaching: practical guidance, with supplements checked against prescribed medication by your GP, prescriber or pharmacist.
- Recovery Assessments and Tracking: a structured way to discuss your starting point and note progress, without changing your medical plan.
- WhatsApp Recovery Support: gentle check-ins between appointments, where included in your agreed support.
If discomfort flares, follow your care team’s guidance first. If they have cleared gentle self-management, adopt good posture, avoid slouching, and stretch little and often, without pushing into pain or going against post-operative instructions.

What research says
A 2025 systematic review in The BMJ analysed 186 randomised trials of prehabilitation, covering over 15,000 patients. It found exercise and nutrition were the components most linked with better recovery outcomes, such as fewer complications and shorter hospital stays. But the certainty of much of the evidence was low or very low, and the programmes varied widely.
This research does not prove that every person benefits, that any particular wellness session is suitable, or that Hope House services improve surgical outcomes. It supports a careful conversation about personalised preparation and recovery, guided by your clinical team. Read the review.

FAQ
Is this safe after my operation?
Only with your consultant’s or GP’s approval, and adapted to your stage of recovery. Do not start a session until your medical team has confirmed what is suitable.
Can Hope House replace my prescribed rehabilitation?
No. We do not replace physiotherapy, rehabilitation or any part of your consultant-led treatment plan. Our wellness and movement support is complementary and must fit your medical team’s instructions.
Can I have HBOT before or after surgery?
Some people explore HBOT as a wellness session, but suitability must be assessed and medical clearance is required. We do not claim that HBOT speeds surgical healing. Ask your consultant or GP first.
Can you advise me about supplements?
We can offer nutrition and supplement coaching, but check any supplement with your GP, prescriber or pharmacist. Particularly if you take prescribed medication.
